Welcome to my travel diary for Egypt, which I visited for ten days in October 1991.
Leaving Greece and flying in to Cairo by night.
A dream come true – seeing the pyramids.
Seeing Cairo: the Citadel, the Mosque of Muhammed Ali and the Mosque of Muhammed Ibn Tuloun.
Eleven hours by train to Luxor.
Luxor: hiring a felucca and cruising down the Nile.
The Colossi of Memnon, the Valley of the Kings, the mortuary temple of Ramses III.
Getting to know the locals; Ali’s African restaurant.
Karnak; back to Cairo and the Windsor Hotel.
Crazy Cairo: the Cairo Museum; deteriorating health.
A last trip to the pyramids; farewell to Egypt and my first big trip overseas.
